Our Addiction Treatment Approach
APG Addiction CARE uses 6 main strategies with our addiction treatment approach…
1. MEDICATION ASSISTED TREATMENT
Our program utilizes medication assisted treatment (MAT, Suboxone/Vivitrol) to help get patients started on the right path to independence. Medical support can also be used when treating other underlying conditions (ex: anxiety, depression, bipolar, schizophrenia, ADHD).
2. INDIVIDUAL THERAPY
Individual Therapy addresses individual underlying problems that accompany an addiction. Specifically, our sessions are designed to address the addiction source issues and help with the management of the process. Individual Therapy works on the emotional and psychological developmental issues that may have contributed to addiction and some of the underlying conditions associated with it. Clients meet with a therapist at least once a week – ensuring core issues are identified and properly addressed.
3. GROUP EDUCATION / THERAPY
Group therapy sessions are the primary treatment component used in our intensive outpatient program. Group topics vary from on the needs of the participants and the dynamics of the group.
Group educational meetings are useful to discuss the nature of your addiction and provide a feedback forum allowing you to become more adjusted to a world without substance addiction. Group therapy consists of treatment groups that provide an opportunity to practice the skills that are necessary for you to function in the environment in which you live. These groups are designed to offer you feedback from other patients that may view your behavior differently and allow you to reconsider your view of your behavior and make changes that will help you become more functional.
4. FAMILY SUPPORT / THERAPY
Family is a central supporting theme when dealing with addiction strategies. Our program encourages weekly family group participation in addiction management. We provide the educational foundation that differentiates our program from other types of programs, and help family members with implementation of the CBT process.
Helping families identify relational dynamics; understand generational patterns; achieve appropriate dynamics; implement boundaries; and restructure relationships are our most important goals of family therapy.
5. COGNITIVE BEHAVIORAL THERAPY
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, otherwise known as CBT, has become a term referring to any type of clinical intervention therapy strategy that uses a replacement logic in the treatment program. At APG, our approach to CBT is different. During treatment, we teach patients the conceptual and contextual learning strategies they need to successfully identify and eliminate the root triggers to addiction behavior. By combining CBT with other strategies like wellness, our program demonstrates a much higher success rate than those containing abstinence alone.
Our program also includes an exercise component to stimulate the natural production of endorphins. Many patients with various substance use disorders have found that exercise helps to distract them from cravings. Workouts add structure to the day. They help with forming positive social connections, and help treat depression and anxiety in combination with other therapies
More specifically, opioid addiction causes havoc with the chemical balance in the brain. As a result, a person who has abused opiates has destroyed the body and brain’s production of “feel good” chemicals such as dopamine and endorphins. Because exercise will increase naturally the level of dopamine and endorphins in the body, our program utilizes exercise during opioid detox and recovery to reduce withdrawal symptoms, cravings, help prevent relapse, and help provide a way to cope with triggers and reduce stress. An exercise regimen also improves sleep patterns and promotes healthy living and confidence.
